5 Ways You Can Purchase Online But Not Using Your Credit Card

How do you make online purchases without using your credit card?

You see, online shopping requires you to have a payment method that is accepted on the internet. Of course, most people would raise their credit cards when it comes to this matter.

But the thing is, using credit cards without prudence can lead to debts. Online shopping can make people spend uncontrollably, and that’s pretty risky, especially for credit cards with high limits and interest rates. It can certainly plummet your credit score and overall financial standing.

Fortunately, there are multiple ways you can make a purchase of something online, even in the absence of a credit card. These payment methods are listed below.

Debit Cards

Instead of using credit cards, it is prudent that you use your debit card instead. Using one is as simple as using your credit card. You simply have to put your card details in the retailer’s shop, and you are good to go. You just have to be careful when it comes to putting in your personal information. Regularly, you will only be asked for the card number, security code, expiration date, and billing address. Your debit card password is out of the picture.

When you use a debit card to purchase online, the deduction will be on your checking account that is linked to it. If you don’t have a debit card right now, you should consider getting one. Ask your bank to open one for you.

Prepaid Cards

Prepaid cards and debit cards are quite the same. The only difference they have is that the funds of a prepaid card are directly loaded to it, not to a checking account. However, for you to be able to use a prepaid card anywhere online, it should have a logo of major credit card providers such as American Express, Visa, Discover, and MasterCard.

Prepaid cards are an ideal option for those who don’t have a debit card. They are also great for those who want to make immediate purchases but don’t have a debit or credit card to do so. There are various platforms where you can get a prepaid card. Retailers like Walmart and CVS have them.

Store Credit And Gift Cards

Visa, Mastercard, and other primary credit card networks offer gift cards. And these gift cards can be utilized at various online retailers that accept payment from those networks that we mentioned. You are also free to opt for a retail-specific gift card to make online purchases. But of course, you can only shop exclusively on the retailer that issued the gift card. For instance, a Store A gift card can only be used at Store A.

You can buy these gift cards on the same platforms where you can buy prepaid cards. These stores also offer retailer-specific gift cards, so you might want to consider purchasing them, too.

Meanwhile, store credits usually function the same as gift cards. If you are going to return a product from that retailer, they might issue you a store credit rather than giving you a refund. Essentially, these store credits can come in either digital or physical cards. You can pre-load them to your customer’s account.

PayPal

You can also make online purchases using your PayPal account. You can do this by linking first your PayPal with your checking account. After that, all the transactions that you made with PayPal will be directly deducted from the checking account that you have linked.

However, the story is different if your PayPal account has a sufficient balance. Transactions will be deducted from the said balance first. If it is no longer sufficient, it will then be deducted from your checking out. You can check PayPal’s website to see the list of online sellers and retailers that have PayPal as one of their payment methods.

There are other companies that offer similar services to PayPal. Venmo is an excellent example. You can use it to make online purchases. Interestingly, Venmo offers buyers with consumer protection through its Venmo Purchase Program.

Cryptocurrencies

Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum have been gaining momentum over the past few years, but there have been many questions regarding how exactly to use them. Fortunately, many retailers these days are now accepting them.

Before you can try this payment method, you need to purchase cryptocurrencies first. You can buy on sites like Coinbase, eToro, and Robinhood. You will also need to use a digital wallet too. After that, you will be able to make transactions using the cryptocurrency that you have.
